Carrier oils are also referred to as vegetable oils and base oils. They have extensive applications in Aromatherapy because they are used to dilute Essential Oils for application. They are also used in the manufacturing of cold-process soaps and for massage by Licensed Massage Therapists. Unlike Essential Oils that do not go rancid, Carrier oils have a shelf life. The Carrier oils themselves are commonly extracted by the cold-press method. In this process the fatty oil portions of the product are extracted and collected. An Example of a Carrier Oils extracted using this method is Almond Sweet. In instances where there is very little oil – like Grapeseed Carrier Oil – solvent extraction may be used using a food grade solvent; which is then removed at the end of the process.
